Combining Automatic and Phonetic-Acoustic Speaker Recognition Techniques for Forensic Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
The central argument of the present study is that the performance of modern forensic speaker recognition can be improved by combining the strongholds of two entirely different approaches, that is: the classical acousticphonetic method and a potent automatic total-voice system such as IdentiVox. Since both make use of different and statistically independent sets of features of the phonetic and linguistic signal their individual results may eventually be combined into one conclusion regarding the key question of identity or non-identity between anonymous and suspected speakers. Two real-world cases will be presented as practical examples.

Phonetic, idiolectal and acoustic speaker recognition
This paper describes a text-independent speaker recognition system that achieves an equal error rate of less than 1% by combining phonetic, idiolect, and acoustic features. The phonetic system is a novel language-independent speakerrecognition system based on differences among speakers in dynamic realization of phonetic features (i.e., pronunciation), rather than spectral differences in voice q...
متن کاملAuditory-instrumental forensic speaker recognition
The most prominent part in forensic speech and audio processing is speaker recognition. In the world a number of approaches to forensic speaker recognition (FSR) have been developed, that are different in terms of technical procedures, methodology, instrumentation and also in terms of the probability scale on which the final conclusion is based. The BKA‘s approach to speaker recognition is a co...
متن کاملForensic Voice Comparisons in German with Phonetic and Automatic Features Using Vocalise Software
In this article, we present a novel forensic speaker recognition system that provides the capability to perform comparisons using both ‘traditional’ forensic phonetic parameters and ‘automatic’ spectral features in a semior fully automatic way. We evaluate this approach with simulated and real forensic case data in German, which ranges from high quality laboratory audio data to real telephone i...
متن کاملAutomatic-type calibration of traditionally derived likelihood ratios: forensic analysis of australian English /o/ formant trajectories
A traditional-style phonetic-acoustic forensic-speakerrecognition analysis was conducted on Australian English /o/ recordings. Different parametric curves were fitted to the formant trajectories of the vowel tokens, and cross-validated likelihood ratios were calculated using a single-stage generative multivariate kernel density formula. The outputs of different systems were compared using Cllr,...

VILE (An acoustic study of interand intra-speaker variation in Spanish) is a basic research project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology (BFF2001-2551, 2001-2004). The objective of the Project is the acoustic study of phonetic variability in Spanish. Results will be applied to automatic speaker recognition and forensic phonetics.
